With A Critical Eye

I am not happy with the quality of my tatting today. It might be in my mind only, but my stitches look sloppy, and I want this piece to be very special, as it is for my daughter who wants to frame it.

Maybe part of my dismay stems from the fact that the white is not looking pristine. It ís so difficult to keep it clean. This one will have to be washed I think when it is done.

Also, this pattern is very repetitive and my focus often... very often... drifts away. And there are seven more motifs to repeat! ... sigh ...

  1. Not so bad! I think if you keep it going and wash it up well, you'll be okay with it in the long run.

  2. If you are feeling truly discouraged with this, have a look at Jon's blog - she's tatting it too and I think the prospect of finishing your own piece will be invigorated by seeing how gorgeous it's going to be. Often comparing your work with somebody else's isn't a good idea - but your tatting is going to be beautiful! - Forget where you have been and look where you're going.....

  3. Looks beautiful from here!!! :)
Maybe you should tat some small motifs of different styles between each one you have to do for the doily and maybe it won't get so repetative. Just a thought, plus using a variety of other colors on the other motifs might help too. :) Hoping to make you smile!!! :)

  4. I know some days go smoothly with tatting and others not. I do better if I give up tatting for a day or two, then I seem to do better when I go back too it. This is absolutely beautiful by the way.
I ordered that pattern, he said he is out and when new ones come in he will mail it. He thinking it will be a week or two.

  8. I know the feeling. Leave it for the time being.
I would start the next motif before deciding on what to do with the first one. You can leave it or cut it off later.
    It looks beautiful.

  10. I'm really enjoying tatting in white, even knowing that it will require a good washing when I'm finished. I think this one will be stunning framed. I wonder if I have a wall large enough for a framed Monster Doily?
