Loving 'Lavender & Lace'

...the pattern, that is, from this book:

The thread is Krystle's - Wisteria Lane,
one of my all time favourite hand dyed threads.

Another apple/pumpkin. There is much improvement, especially in the leaf.  Why do I have to tat everything several times before I slow down and get it right? It would be so much easier to tat it correctly and with more care the first time. I am far too impatient!
Tat-A-Long
UPDATE:

Too much yellow, so I am revising my initial colour choice in the next row... This round is going to take some time.  Lots of tatting and I am finding that it goes quite slowly.

I noticed something curious.  A few weeks ago, I changed the look of my home page and picked a different background for Google... Look at the colours I chose.  The unconscious mind is always at work it seems!

  1. love your top motif. what did you use for the coordinating thread? Another cute apple/pumpkin. a few more and you will have enough for a pie. he he.
as for the tat-a-long, you are right, that is too much yellow. if the round had been a different design, it might have been right.

  2. The blues, greens and bits of yellow and purple are truly pretty in Lavender and Lace! Love the combo! Heehee, the pumpkin is cute! Interesting colours there. I like the doily, but like you said, too much yellow on the top row. Can't wait to see how you'll finish this!

    1. Hi, Val,
This thread is much prettier in real life! I can't seem to get it accurately in my Canon...

  3. Love the Lavender & Lace motif and the colours are lovely not surprised they're a favourite.

The pumpkin /apple is cute and a lovely little motif. Much as I like the shade of yellow agree its going to be too much, perhaps swap the red and yellow round?

  6. I love Krystle's Wisteria Lane but I do not think I have it. You tatted a pretty motif from Rita's book. I have tatted the apple before in red. We tend to steer towards colours we love, don't we? I am finding it difficult to complete my WIPs.

  7. I always think I have that Rita Weiss book because the cover looks so similar to Eligiva Nicholls' "Tatting Techniques and History". They were both published by Dover, and I think they used the same table and almost the same flowers - just different doilies! We today have such an endless supply of 'antique' patterns/motifs to play around with. Are you planning to do a larger piece with Lavender and Lace?

Seems to me you'll be quite busy with Round 4 of the Tat-Along. I'm afraid I'd have to stop with Round 3!

Such a pretty 'pumpkin'! And your first leaf looked fine to me. There are so many varieties of threads now to play with Mark's cute apple/pumpkin. However, I was in such a hurry to post about Old Economy and have a piece of tatting to show that I didn't even attempt the leaf and I left off the outer picots, but did add some gold beads. I was delighted that a salesgal at the store complimented my pendant, and I ended up explaining tatting to her!

    1. Yes, Kathy, the covers are confusing on those books - very similar.

I thought about a larger piece, but I have enough to do with the T-A-L. I think I will leave it at the one motif for now, pretty though it amy be!

I liked the gold beads! Beads are every bit as as good as picots, in my book! There; I've said it! : ))

  8. Wisteria Lane is such a pretty thread-no wonder it's a favourite. Lavender and Lace looks very delicate and I think I have that book, but have not been tatting as much as I would like......I'll have to remember this pattern. Cute apple!

    2. I do like the yellow! Not normally my color either, but it looks really great and brings some brightness to the doily. Either way, your work looks awesome and I know it will be fabulous!!! :)

    3. Well, I had another look and still did not like so much yellow, though it really works as an accent.

If you read the next post you will see all the purple and pink - with just a hint of yellow.... I like it better this way, but will be adding yellow back in, depending on how the pattern evolves, of course, but probably in the next round. I do not have enough thread to not include the yellow! I appreciate your input a lot, Sue. Thanks!

The last Renulek doily was 18 rounds! This is only #4, so I am a bit nervous... it might be HUGE!

    1. Thanks, Mandatory,
The motif is not readily seen as a pattern on its own - the photo only shows the entire mat and I actually used a magnifying glass to see how the pattern looked when I began and could not figure something out!

It is a simple chains and rings thing though - not complicated and I agree - very pretty.
